Yoga for Toddlers
It’s not likely that you think of toddlers when you hear the word Yoga. More likely, you think of calm, relaxed atmosphere full of spiritual enlightenment. Even though it may be hard to imagine a toddler maintaining a downward dog, toddlers can enjoy yoga too.
Yoga has great benefits for growing children and it’s a lot of fun. It’s a fun way to develop important skills in a non-competitive environment. It is a powerful technique for them to begin moving their bodies in ways that feel good and help them look good. Even if your child is of normal weight, yoga can help them become stronger, gain endurance and flexibility.
They might learn yoga breathing exercises can help them calm down when are angry at playmate. Preteens might learn how to relax before an exam, while some might be able to improve their performance in competitive athletics. While these are only a few benefits mentioned, there are a lot of things to do in yoga for the tiniest of posers, though some people aren’t quite convinced of the physical benefits. Yoga helps children balance quiet and active poses with game playing, singing, storytelling, drawing, simple breath meditations and rest. They can use their yoga poses to play games, take on the qualities of different animals or use their imaginations to make up stories about animals on a farm, climbing a mountain or trekking through a jungle. Emphasize the English names for poses. Kids are far more interested in doing a pose called "Cat" than a pose called "Bidalasana."
Ask kids to imagine where they are as they are doing each pose. For example, when doing "Tree Pose" have children imagine that they are a palm tree near a beach, blowing in the ocean breeze.
Some quick benefits are listed below: First, yoga strengthens them and helps them become more flexible and coordinated. Second, enhances self-awareness. Self-esteem is bolster as the children gain control over their bodies and minds.
Third, enhances imagination and empathy. For instance, when children are asked to strike poses from nature like snake, tree, dog, etc. Then they imagine what it would be like to be those life forms. In this way, they learn to connect with all the life on the planet.
Fourth, yoga isn’t about being right or wrong, or best or worst. It’s about bringing unity to ones own life.
Fifth, yoga teaches children to be self-disciplined.
Sixth, through practicing yoga, children can learn ways to relax and get control of stress in their lives.
